Rio ensemble Pra Gira Girar celebrate Os Tincoãs with a record built around the Bahian trio’s intricate vocal arrangements. The project grew from Alvaro Lancellotti’s wish to bring these songs to the stage, with Michele Leal, Alan de Deus and guitarist Pedro Costa forming the original core. Weekly rehearsals gave the group time to work closely through the harmonies.
“Atabaque Chora”, written by Dadinho and Mateus Aleluia, opens their recorded journey. Kassin, Zé Manoel, Zero Telles, Anna Magalhães and Diogo Gomes join the wider ensemble on bass, piano, percussion and trumpet. Released by Amor In Sound, the LP approaches this Afro-Brazilian repertoire through a new group of voices while keeping the vocal interplay at its heart.
